Our Mexico City Itinerary: Mas Mezcalitas, Por Favor

Where we drank, wandered, shopped, and ate on our long weekend in CDMX (Plus, where I'd go again and again)

Mexico City had been sitting on my list for a while, mostly because every cocktail person I trust kept telling me the same thing: you need to go. So we finally did!!! A few days built around long walks, intentional reservations, and a very ambitious cocktail agenda with my sister.

This wasn’t a museum-heavy, checklist trip. It was more about neighborhoods, pacing ourselves (so many things to try !!), popping into beautiful spaces, and saying yes to mezcalitas. If you’re planning a Mexico City trip and want to know where to drink, where to walk, and where to not stress about going back to… this itinerary is for you.

The Bars Everyone Told Me I Had to Go To

Before we even landed, I had a running list of cocktail bars that friends, bartenders, and “trust me on this” people insisted I hit while in Mexico City. If you’re planning your own trip, this is a great starting point. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to hit all of these… but I guess that means I just have to go back (darn).

Where We Stayed: Maison Celeste

We stayed at Maison Celeste, and I would absolutely recommend it. It’s intimate, stylish, monochromatic in the best way, and perfectly located for walking Roma Norte and Condesa. Every morning they offered coffee and fresh fruit + yogurt, which felt like such a small but thoughtful touch. They also have a secret Japanese restaurant downstairs… more on that immediately…

Friday, Jan 9: Arrival, Chartreuse Spritzes & Dinner

We landed around 2:30 PM and took a quick 25-ish minute taxi to the hotel. After freshening up, we went straight downstairs to Maison Celeste’s hidden Japanese restaurant YAMATA. Looking back, this might have been my favorite moment of the entire trip.

I ordered a Yellow Chartreuse spritz, a hand roll, and fully melted into the experience. Maybe I was starving. Maybe because it was giving speakeasy. Maybe it was the travel adrenaline. Whatever it was, it worked. If you stay here, do not skip this.
